John Santos has been the Data Scientist with Janet Brown Opinion Research since 2013, where his responsibilities include research design and advanced analytics.

Janet Brown Opinion Research is one of Alberta’s top market research firms. Together with Trend Research, they conducted the most accurate publicly released polls of the 2019 and 2023 Alberta provincial elections. In partnership with journalist Paul McLoughlin, Janet Brown Opinion Research publishes the Wild Ride Update, a quarterly report that weaves political insight with proprietary polling.

John’s academic training is in political science, with a focus on political behaviour and quantitative research methodologies. He has an M.A. in Political Science from the University of Calgary and completed doctoral coursework at the University of Western Ontario. His publication credits include three book chapters in edited volumes, one co-authored journal article, two statistical software packages, and several presentations at academic conferences. His most recent publication is the chapter, “Visible minority voting behaviour in the Danielle Smith era” in the forthcoming edited volume, Red State (Spring 2027, UCalgary Press).

John also provides political commentary for CBC Calgary, Alberta Primetime on CTV2, and Connect with Sarah Crosbie on AM770.
